I used the Medela Pump in Style double electric and I could get out 6-8oz out of both sides in about 10 minutes or so. I pumped a few times a week to store for when I was away from my son. Some women have better luck than others when it comes to pumping.
The electric pumps are much better than the manual and I believe they are worth the money.
I can pump 9ozs within 5-10 minutes with my Medela Pump in Style. It has two dual capacity so I can pump both breasts making 9ozs total in a very short amount of time since I had to return to work. It was more expensive ($250) but worth it to me as I plan to breastfeed for a year.
Not sure how long you plan to breastfeed, but have you considered renting one from the hospital. It may be more cost effective if you need something electric and more efficient. They’re all new parts that come in contact with the milk so its totally sanitary. I think you can rent one for $60/month.
You should also be able to rent one from a hospitol which be be one of the best pumps o use. Also, if you quallify for wic they can help you out with one also.
I also have the Medela Pump in Style. I used it every day with my firstborn and less often with my second, but it is definitely worth it! I have tried a manual pump and a battery operated pump also. I prefer the electric for it’s power and ease of use. They are somewhat expensive, but if you plan on having more than one child (or using it for 18 months, as you say) it will be worth it. You can also consider selling it after you are done with it.
