I have a baby boy who will be a month old on Saturday. He’s been on bottles (with EBM) since he was a little over 2 weeks old and we’ve struggled to find one he likes/can latch on to.
So far we have tried the Nuk Orthodontic bottles, but it would take him over 30 minutes to drink half an ounce. We tried the bottles that came with my pump, but he wouldn’t even latch on to that one. We’ve tried the Playtex Ventaire but the nipple is way to small for him.
The only ones he can use is the regular Gerber bottles, but we can’t find any slow flow nipples for it (we own a ton of them plus medium and fast flow from back when our daughter was an infant) and the Drop-In liner bottles, but I hate having to always make sure we have liners.
From that, I’ve come to the conclusion that he likes the larger nipples the best. Is there any bottles out there I’ve missed that are larger? I’ve heard the Avent Bottles have large nipples, but there wasn’t any at Walmart today so I will look for them at Target the first chance I get….any more out there?
This blows because we switched to bottles *because* of latch issues and it’s the same problem now….LOL.
Dr. Brown has the smaller nipples, like the Playtex Ventaire, unfortunately.
The bottle is called "playtex ventaire advanced"…..I think it’s the standard.
Yeah, I mean having a wide base. With most I have tried, the nipple and base are both the same size.

I have been exclusively breastfeeding, but lately my in laws (to be) have been begging to watch the baby for a couple hours to allow me & my fiance to do some errands.. only thing is that my baby HATES bottles.. even if I pump she refuses the bottle… She doesn’t know how to suck on it and the odd time that she does get abit of milk she will start gagging and cry as if shes in alot of pain. I’ve tried Medela bottles and the Avent ones (which is supposed to be very similar to a breast’s nipple). What type of bottles do you mothers use that breastfeed or express your breast milk?

I have a one month old daughter who refuses the bottle. I have exclusively breastfed up until now and am trying to supplement one feeding a day with formula or for when we go out. The only reason I am wanting to give formula instead of breastmilk is because I can’t pump more then 1.5 ounces which is from both breasts… I have tried Enfamil and Nestle Good Start. She hates the taste of both of them… and she also doesn’t suck on the nipples on the bottle - I have tried using Medela, Avent, and the Playtex drop-in’s …
Which formula does your baby like and which bottles do you use?

Okay, so here is the deal…we are trying to give my 5 month old baby one bottle a day of formula….I have been exsclusively breastfeeding up until now. She has had expressed breast milk from the bottle. She was drinking this from a Playtex Ventair just fine. But now that we have introduced formula she will not take ANYTHING from a bottle. She gags when we try to put it in her mouth. If I am gone and my husband tries feeding her she will go over 6 hours not eating until I am home to feed her! We tried putting breast milk in the bottle and still no go! I have tried Avent bottles, Evenflo, and Playtex Ventair. Is there a bottle that would have a nipple that closely resembles the nipple? Or does anyone have any suggestions? Please dont tell me that I should not be giving my daughter formula…I AM still breastfeeding her I just need to drop a feeding because I cannot pump enough milk for when I am at work! Thanks for your help!
I was freezing breastmilk…I just do not make as much milk as I use to and would like to drop a feeding so that I am not having to store as much milk!

When I read about the possible dangers of BPA in polycarbonate bottles, I switched from Avent bottles to Playtex drop-ins. Then I read that my breastpump, Ameda Purely Yours, is made out of polycarbonate, so I am wary about using it and prefer to give my daughter formula on the rare occasions I leave her with a sitter ( I don’t want to spend 350+ on a Medela pump bec she is 10 mos old and will be switching to cow’s milk soon). Now I hear that formula, even the powdered kind, is sold in cans lined with BPA http://www.ewg.org/reports/infantformula. What is a mom to do?
Luckily, I breastfed my daughter 95% of the time. Still, I am scared about the BPA she’s been exposed to. I also drank from a polycarbonate water bottle when I was pregnant with her, so I feel bad about he BPA I exposed her to when she was in my womb.
For those of you who think the BPA fear is overblown, there is an article in the NY Times today about how the Canadian govt is likely to label BPA as a toxic chemical.
Here is th NY Times report:

I plan to breastfeed my twins when they are born (currently 23 weeks), but will also be working a few nights a week so I will need to pump so my husband can feed them with a bottle. I have read that the Playtex Nursers or Avent bottles with orthodontic nipples are the 2 best options. I am trying to get my registry done and want to get ones that will reduce the "nipple confusion" I have read about. Any suggestions from moms with experience on this?

Ladies I am so frustrated. My LO is three weeks old today and I unfortunately have to go back to work at six weeks. I have been giving her one bottle of breast milk per day since day one and have also been pumping and freezing milk so my MIL can feed her breast milk when my leave is up. Everything was going perfectly until I began refrigerating expressed milk so that my husband and I could take turns feeding her during the night. Enter HUGE PROBLEM: soapy/sour-smelling milk after 24 hours in the fridge (in Avent breast milk storage containers). At first I assumed I must not have rinsed the bottles well enough, or that my fridge temperature was off, or I left them out too warm… then I got googling and I am 99.9% sure that it’s excess lipase. My suspicions were confirmed when I thawed two containers of my frozen milk and found them RANCID. I looked it up on the La Leche League website, but I will not have time to scald everything I pump once I go back to work (especially AT work… no stove, no time…) and refuse to give my baby something that tastes like her spit-up smells. I am considering breastfeeding in the mornings and evenings/overnight and letting my MIL give her formula during the day… what did YOU do in this situation? Any experienced answers are very appreciated!

couple questions… my daughter was born july 13 i have done breastfeeding so far an i love it , i love the bonding we share while doing it. but my milk just is not coming in enough. everyone said dont wait till the milk comes in put her on the breast let her suck so the breast gets use to it then supplement with the formula cause she was not getting full. so ive been doing that even bought a pump but she doesnt get full off me at all and i only pump like two ounces maybe twice a day usually just once. were about to just give up whats the point if i can only do it twice a day an it doesnt even fill her? is there anything else i can try or just stick wit the bottle?
and we have been using avent bottles but it seems like it gets so much bubbles inthem we got them cause the nipples are suppose to be like breast but why so much bubbles which cause gas,,,anyone have any bottles they reccomend? thanks so much
she is extremely constipated several wet diapers only one poopie diaper… and no she does not get full , she stays fussy until i give her formula

i was having discussion with my sister who didnt breast feed any of her kids which was her choice, but my sis in law did and we got into a debate as im expecting in a few months.
basically i do want to breast feed and know about supply and demand, however i also want to combine formulae to her intake maybe once a day - i only plan to breast feed for 3 months and also want her to transition into formula without any problems as i will be away for 2 weeks.
my dilemma is - is it okay to combine milks with baby and also i have no back up plan incase she doesnt take to breast / formula milk - i am completely against freezing milk so its not an option i am also debating whether to buy a pump to express the milk as well.
any good pump recommendations ( im in the uk so i have seen 3 good ones - medela mini dual breast pump, avent isis pump and medela swing) any ideas which is good
thanks

I’m due in October and is planning on returning to work after 2 months. I’ve been looking into breast pumps and most recomended Avent. Avent has one line that’s BPA free. I want to buy storage containers as well for the breast pump for the conveniance and is wondering whether all the containers that come with Avent breast pumps are BPA free too or only one line of bottles are BPA free.
