Any new mums / mums to be in UK using Avent bottles…?
…Asda currently have a baby & toddler event, and you can buy the Avent Newborn Starter Set (4 bottles, 6 teats, soother and bottle brush) for £10!! The RRP is £19.99! They have both the standard and the BPA free sets at same price.
And because I have to ask a question, my question is… Have you used, or are you intending to use the Philips Avent breast pump, and if so how good have you found it?
xx
Hey Mummy… Oh how annoying for you! Thanks for answering about the Avent stuff though. x

TO THE OLD FASHION WOMAN… some of us cant breastfeed, did you consider that?? I purchased the breast pump and tried naturally yes but felt a complete failure when i couldnt breast feed… i knew i’d have some issues because i had breast cancer 3 years ago… i found your answer rude and un-called for!
Heya
I’m a recent mum lol 7 weeks this week!
I bought both of those from asda at their nromal prices, so im a bit miffed they are reduced now, but the breast pump worked fine with me, i had no problems with it, and the bottles well my baby drinks from them fine without any hassle, avent is really the best type of bottle, avent, tommy tippee they are the ones i use

Hello,
I didn’t rate the Avent bottles, I preferred the Tommee Tippee closer to nature products. But I did use the Avent Isis electronic breast pump with my last two. I found it worked really well, and the portable battery pack was a god send!!!! Didn’t reallt rate the manual one though…. Good luck!! xxxx
You know, breastfeeding is completely free, and you have the added benefit of doing the right thing for your baby. You also don’t have to worry about dangerous chemicals that are contained in the plastic the bottles are made from. Scientists now admit they are linked to cancer. Add this to the poison you are pumping into your child from formula and breastfeeding does start to look better and better. God bless, I hope you can make the best choice for your baby! xx
i used the avent bottles with my little girl who is now 20months, and am planning on using them with the next one too. i have never had any problems with them and think they are great, but its down to personal preference of your little one. i would recomend just buying the 9 ounce bottles and not to bother with the 4 ounce ones. as they grow out of them so quickly.
i would also recommend the avent food warmer, its ideal for heating up expressed milk in the middle of the night as you can plug it in by the bed (great if a family member or daddy has little one over night). also useful when they get to solids as you can heat jars in them aswell.. defo one of the bes £20 i ever invested.
good luck x
yes buy them thats cheap. you dont use the small bottles for very long and newborns can have the larger bottles but make sure its size one teats. different size teats fit all bottles. i found them easy to clean. i have the breast pump, but didnt succeed in breastfeeding so it never got used really but it is simple to use and no fiddly bits to clean.
Three babies, all used Avent. All good.
Hi. I used both the Avent bottles and the breast pump. I tried so hard to breastfeed and when I realised it wasn’t working I expressed all my babies feeds (I was expressing most of the day) because I felt so guilty that I couldn’t feed her naturally. I found the pump good, once you get the hang of it, it’s easy but when you are expressing as much as I was it can be very tiring, I was expressing 500 mls a day. I got the Avent bottles on offer too, I live in Greece but someone sent them over for me. I think if I was to use a pump again, I’d get an electric one though, my hands ached so much!! The pump fits into to the Avent steriliser too along with 6 bottles.
To our friend with the breastfeeding advice - it doesn’t work for everyone, it made me a very stressed and depressed Mum, being made to feel guilty about not breastfeeding isn’t fair.
hello! Long time since i’ve been on answers but anyway… here’s my 2p worth! I’ve just been to Asda and stocked up on nappies for the new baby who isn’t due till April but since I was passing and needed some other stuff it was a good offer not to miss. I’ve never used Avent bottles so I hope that this answer is relevant to you but I have always used Dr Brown’s bottles, both the standard bottles and the widenecked ones (latter are only ones you can get with ease in the UK) for my daughter. She still uses them for her milk before bed now and she’s 2 and nearly 2 months. I bought them originally because I was recommended them to reduce the problems associated with colic and I found them great. I used a medela breast pump when I was feeding my daughter and had no issues transfering the milk from this to the dr browns bottles to feed. I had to return the medela pump as it was on the American Voltage and now i’m back in the UK i’ve got hold of a single electric philips avent pump which I plan to use this time around ( I found it helpful to combine breastfeeding and pumping to use a bottle with breastmilk in so hubby could feed sometimes and … wait for it.. so I could have break now and again!! … and I also found it really helpful to introduce a bottle early on which meant my daugher was equally happy at the breast and at the bottle. I also had to pump really early on because of probs in early days with breastfeeding per se and I really believe the pump was a lifesaver then. I hope that the Philips Avent pump will be as good as the medela one I had before. I would always go electric with a pump as manual is such a bore. I think introducing a bottle early on also meant when I stopped breastfeeding and went onto formula only there was no drama over rejecting the bottle. I hope it will work out this time like this too).
I will try the Doc Browns bottles again as i found them so good and only if baby doesn’t like them will I try something else, probably the Avent ones as they would fix onto the pump - but I didn’t find pouring milk from one bottle to another a hassle last time.
Good luck with all the choices!!
